Corpus frame

The corpus applies one lens to many domains: what mechanisms produce the outcome? It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority.

  1. Mechanisms are what act. Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. The thesis is a portable phrase: slogans strip mechanisms. Apply the page's own Level-1 rule to it.

Level 1 must not be self-explanatory; it should create a question. "Compression paradox" and "maximum portability produces maximum distortion" answer. They occupy the slot.

Object: the title, the thesis box, and the three-sentence synthesis. Who may fail those phrases for being replacements rather than invitations is not named. If a slogan that feels like understanding is the failure mode, the page's own portable layer is a candidate.

They are not scored. No check that a listener recovered rate × capacity × time, that the phrase made a prediction they could fail, or that it stayed inside epidemic dynamics. Kind-claim: this phrase is the map. The page's own rule is that a good compression is an invitation that unpacks to the mechanism. The specimen does not show the unpack.

The common-pattern paragraph already says the compression maps whichever attribute is most emotionally salient or politically useful, then the compressed version propagates because it is simpler and more rewarding.

That is a selector, not a mapping operation. Spencer's phrase, the automaticity reading of Smith, and the selfishness reading of Dawkins each had a use. Treating the error as "compression preserves attributes rather than relations" recodes a reward gradient as a cognitive two-kind table.

If the selector still pays for the salient attribute, a relational compression will not be the one that travels.

The two operations are still real. Structure-mapping is used as the mechanism of the mapping, not as a claim that politics is irrelevant. The page's point is that mapping kind determines what travels: attribute maps are cheaper and feel like understanding.

Political usefulness can pick which attribute and still leave the distortion as a mapping error. A selector that prefers salience still needs the substitution step. The table is not a denial of incentives.

§VIII gives a three-level hierarchy and a rule: the portable phrase must create a question. SUCCESs is rejected because it optimizes stickiness.

The hierarchy is a repair object. Who may close a proposed Level-1 as "self-explanatory" rather than "not sticky"? Owner: unnamed. Authority: none. Capacity: whoever is already writing the next slogan. Binding: decorative — you can cite the hierarchy while shipping a self-explanatory phrase.

A filter with no closer is a vocabulary for describing distortion after it has traveled.
