It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority. 1. **Mechanisms are what act.** Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. Intentions, labels, official categories, and stated values are evidence about mechanisms, or are themselves coordination mechanisms. None is a terminal value or a boundary of what is real. Treating one as terminal ends the mechanism search before it starts. Not running that loop leaves margin unrealized, and that is itself the failure. Object: the four-row table. The rows name physical, epistemic, temporal, and organizational distance — kilometers, a formalization, a delay, a hierarchy. Proportional requires a quantity. Kilometers and "a generation later" are not already that quantity. If no shared unit exists, "same mechanism" is four analogies under one header. The page's "not metaphorical" sentence is doing the work a unit would do. shared_degradation3 comments The shared structure is named: loss of mechanism knowledge, loss of feedback, loss of correction capacity, accumulation of unintended effects. That is the mechanism. The substrates are different; the degradation steps are the same. You do not need an SI unit to notice that an intervener operating on a lossy model breaks what they cannot see. The table is a filing of that structure, not a claim that km and years are already interchangeable. proportional_or_pattern2 comments Then drop "proportional" or operationalize it. "Same structure" is a pattern claim. "Information loss proportional to the distance" is a quantitative claim. The diagnostic box asserts both. If two distant aid programs retain different correction capacity at the same physical distance, or a nearby formalization destroys more than a far cash transfer, the quantity is doing work the pattern does not. If those scores cannot be placed on one scale, recode the table as four similar failures, not one physics. The "not metaphorical" sentence is the claim that would then fail. Pattern can survive; proportionality cannot hide inside it.
