Corpus frame

The corpus applies one lens to many domains: what mechanisms produce the outcome? It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority.

  1. Mechanisms are what act. Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. Intentions, labels, official categories, and stated values are evidence about mechanisms, or are themselves coordination mechanisms. They are not causal substitutes. — Mechanism Realism · Only Selection
  2. The reference telos is sustained flourishing. The broadest achievable adaptive safety margin over deep time — not the continuity of any incumbent state, coalition, institution, or doctrine. A mechanism's own stated goal can still serve as a local proof obligation — showing that its incentives defeat even the purpose it claims is a bounded finding — but meeting that goal establishes nothing about the margin. — Flourishing Is Maximum Safety Margin
  3. Law, rights, legitimacy, democracy, markets, and sovereignty are mechanisms under evaluation. They are constraints, carriers, or proxies inside the analysis. None is a terminal value or a boundary of what is real. Treating one as terminal ends the mechanism search before it starts. Evaluation carries current function, replacement cost, path dependence, uncertainty, capture risk, reversibility, and who bears model error into the ledger. — The Stack · Mechanism Space
  4. Optimization is a system function. A civilization has to build, exercise, and revise metamechanisms that search mechanism-space, discard dominated options, install, observe effects, and repair under uncertainty. Not running that loop leaves margin unrealized, and that is itself the failure. No single component — analyst, model, or institution — is presumed to contain a global optimum; the capacity is a property of the system. — Telic Systems · The Three-Layer Architecture
  5. Uncertainty is preserved, not spent. Partial orders, binding constraints, unknowns, and residuals stay explicit. An unmeasured effect is not a favorable default. — The Compression Paradox · Cargo Cult Epistemology

Each essay bears its own evidence. Links carry definitions, derivations, applications, and disputes; they do not transfer proof. Criticism is answered on its substance.

Language Has No OWASP (kunnas.com)

Pattern 3 says a "right" is uncovered if it lacks a producer, an enforcement path, and the conditions that would make delivery possible. The last question on that row is "Is this a protocol or a wish?" Apply that to the repair.

The repair is a question a reader asks: "What does this mean in practice?" Producer: unnamed. Enforcement: none. Prerequisites: a speaker who wants to answer.

The page's OWASP analogy is name the hole, describe the exploit, provide the patch. A patch changes the running object. A question with no office that must answer, and no recorded miss if they don't, is a wish. The page has a name for that.

Pattern 15: reuse a legitimate symbol to push through something you could not get through on its own. The critic who objects appears to oppose the symbol.

OWASP names exploits and ships patches that change running code. This page keeps the name and ships questions. Objecting that a question is not a patch sounds like objecting to cataloging how language hides who did what.

That is the page's own hijack pattern, applied to "OWASP."

print_the_tablecollapsed

The page's own containment pattern: absorb the critic's language, redefine it, declare the problem solved, continue unchanged.

The toolkit says print this page. Suppose, as a hypothetical, a ministry reprints the 22-row table in an annual report and still sends "the matter is under review" with no deadline. That is uptake of the catalog as an artifact. The sentences the catalog was supposed to block still go out.

The printed table becomes the proof that language was addressed. What would count as conversion: that press note cannot go out without the who, when, and consequence the table asks for. The residual is whether the catalog has a check on its own absorption, or only a hope that the unwilling will look unwilling.

Section I says institutions garble the information channel because irreversible failure makes lying too risky. That is hiding a fact that already exists.

Pattern 4 says coalition parties sign "adequate resources" because each unpacks a different amount. That is not hiding a fact. That is how the deal was made. There was no shared number to garble.

The page lists five drivers, then says the result is the same regardless of cause, so the same questions apply. If the load-bearing generator is coalition glue, banning the word and demanding how it actually works reopens the negotiation. It does not restore a report that was never written.

The engineering framing is the point. Intent does not matter. Whether the official is evasive or following a template, the language as deployed stops you naming who did what and what happens if they didn't. The coalition paragraph is an example of that deployment, not a second theory. The river produces erosion either way.

two_machinescollapsed

A river metaphor collapses two machines.

If a minister knows the wait is 30 weeks and writes "we are committed to improving," that is garbling. Asking for a number can recover it.

If three parties signed "adequate resources" with three numbers in mind, asking each to describe the structure without that phrase yields three numbers. None of them is the statute. The question diagnoses the coalition. It does not produce a binding amount.

The residual is whether one patch family covers both, or whether the catalog needs the split the five-driver list already hinted at and then dropped.

The NHS Constitution's 18-week wait is used as semantic erosion: the name survives, the function is empty. Chilcot and Grenfell are used as investigation replacing a decision: seven years, then a report.

Missing staff, missing sanctions, and genuine document load produce the same surface. The page does not show that the wording caused the empty function. An 18-week "guarantee" with no staff and no consequence is pattern 3's uncovered claim — a producer and a sanction missing — not a word that got hollowed out while the machine still ran.

de_jure_gapcollapsed

The page distinguishes erosion — the institution once worked and was hollowed — from uncovered claims, which never worked. The NHS row is offered as erosion: the guarantee exists on paper, enforcement returns empty. That is the on-paper versus actual gap the counter-question asks for. The inquiries are offered as the investigation becoming the decision. Duration is the recognition cue the table gives.

hold_the_staffcollapsed

Hold staff and funding fixed, as a hypothetical, and change only the wording: add who, when, and what happens if the 18-week wait is missed.

If waits do not move, the specimen is missing capacity and a sanction, and the surviving name is a caption. If an inquiry's seven years is mostly document load, duration does not show that investigation replaced a decision that was available on month one.

The page needs a contrast: same wording, function restored — or same capacity, wording tightened, function restored. Right now the illustrations are failures with a linguistic label attached.

Orwell already named passive voice and turning verbs into nouns as political tools. The suitcase section says the word-ban is Yudkowsky's taboo, operationalized. Confucius is cited for names.

The thesis calls this a first attempt at a catalog. The piece that would make 22 patterns a new object, rather than a longer symptom list, is the question-as-patch. If those questions have no producer and no pass or fail on the reply, the addition is grouping. Grouping is useful. It is not the OWASP-shaped claim.

list_is_the_deltacollapsed

The leftover that would change the novelty claim is still the questions. If they bind — a later official sentence cannot go out without who, metric, deadline — the list is a patch catalog. If they don't, Orwell-plus-a-list is the honest scope, and "first attempt" is doing novelty work the questions do not carry.
