Corpus frame

The corpus applies one lens to many domains: what mechanisms produce the outcome? It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority.

  1. Mechanisms are what act. Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. The page says pressing red does not kill anyone. Blue-pressers die because the population missed 50%, an aggregate, not an individual act.

That fails at the pivot. If your press is the vote that keeps blue from crossing 50%, the blues live if you press blue and die if you press red. The table leaves exactly 50% unspecified. The body says that in the only pivotal state you survive either way. Your survival is equal. Theirs is not.

Object: one red press at the threshold. Actuator: the individual vote the page recoded as "not of any individual red-presser's action."

The equal-survival claim is about the chooser. The page already calls it weak dominance. In a census-sized vote the chance you are the threshold is vanishing. Treating that pivot as the moral object is how "you're killing people" gets smuggled back in.

The residual worth defending is expected causal effect, not a claim that no individual ever kills.

Write the missing table cell for equality. Score one red press at N=3 and at a census: who lives, who dies, is the press pivotal. If "does not kill" cannot survive N=3, recode it as "almost never pivotal," not as a causal-responsibility theorem.

"No cooperation surplus" treats the relevant population as red-pressers. Universal red means those people survive. The page's dam — a flood that kills everyone if unpaid — is the wrong contrast class.

If the object is "everyone now alive survives," blue is the dam. Universal red produces universal survival only after you drop the people who will press blue from the maximand. That is a scoring rule, not a matrix fact.

The people who die under universal red are not a pre-existing flood. They are the people who pressed blue. You do not need a dam if nobody walks into the river.

"Everyone now alive" as the object reimports the hostage class the categorization created. A collective good that exists only because some people accepted a downside they did not have to accept is not a cooperation surplus in the page's sense: individual cost to produce mutual benefit exceeding the cost. Mutual benefit here is rescuing the people who paid the cost.

If every blue-presser would switch once they learned they were losing, there is no independently existing hostage class and "no surplus" holds. If a non-switchable base exists — people who press blue knowing it will fail — then red-pressers, when blue loses, kill that base. Hold the matrix fixed; add a labelled non-switchable base of size k. At k=0 the dam is imaginary. At k>0 "universal defection produces universal survival" is false. "Genuinely small" has to name which side of that cut it is on.

§VII's advice is press red, as an individual. Broadcast that advice into a population already over 50% blue and it is not an individual action.

If the essay converts enough blues to red that blue falls through 50%, the remaining blue-pressers die because of the conversion. Weak dominance is a claim about one person's payoff. Social advice that moves the aggregate through the threshold has a different object: it can be the actuator that makes blue fail.

If the advice is adopted completely, everyone presses red and everyone survives. That is the page's system-level claim: a society that identifies the non-game gets universal survival. The dangerous band is partial adoption, which is not the recommendation's intended equilibrium.

Label a hypothetical: 60% would press blue; the page converts 15 points; blue now loses; the remaining 45% die. Individual red still weakly dominates for each convert. The broadcast does not. Who may ship the advice as social advice, rather than as a private dominance argument, is unnamed.

Here the recursive belief is why people fail to play the dominant strategy. That is a description of error, not a second game. If the remainder is only "people mis-label this as cooperation," you do not need a collective belief entity that exists independent of any individual's reasoning.

The interesting object is why the misplay is stable. A one-shot dominance argument does not explain a population that keeps pressing blue. Mutual modelling of mutual modelling is the proposed stabilizer: each person can press blue without sincerely preferring it, if they model enough others as modelling enough others.

Without that layer, "press red" is just "play the weakly dominant strategy," and the essay's contribution collapses to the miscategorization sentence.

The page already says this is not "objectively correct" in a way that escapes the framework. The difference it names is substrate: other values need a living host; "press blue" does not need the host to live, and in the losing state it kills the host.

Infrastructural means: if this replicator is gone, the others have no place to run. That is a dependence claim, not a moral one. Blue's claim is the reverse dependence: if you press red, you damage the cooperation hardware the page says is real in other games.

If the second set is empty, "physics grounding" is a terminal preference with a ranking rule that cannot fail. If it is non-empty, the page's "press red" advice is conditional on not being in that set — and the honest case for blue (identity built on being-a-cooperator) is already that set.
