The page says the bundle could not degrade gracefully. Then the Enlightenment keeps equality, dignity, and rights after dropping the metaphysics: "all souls equal before God" became "all citizens equal before law."

That is a degradation path. The moral piece survived the physics piece. If those intuitions are still what liberal institutions claim to be for, purpose did not go vacant when the cosmology broke. What broke is the advertised derivation.

A state that cannot justify its premises, and a state whose budgets are run by counts, are different leftovers. The Enlightenment sentence is evidence for the first. It is not, by itself, evidence that GDP inherited the purpose.

If dignity-and-rights is still the claimed purpose, the vacancy the proxies inherited has to be shown as a later event, not as the shatter.

A calendar that worked earned priestly authority. The named error is freezing that bundle as doctrine instead of a revisable model.

You cannot keep the authority and throw away the predictions. If access to truth is demonstrated by a calendar that works, treating the calendar as disposable treats the authority as disposable. Heresy as "true but socially disintegrating" is the same trade: the architecture that made the predictions load-bearing is the one that made correction costly.

This is a tradeoff, not a sin you patch. Augustine's off-ramp is named as not taken. It is not shown as a working priesthood that also treated physics as optional. Until that third design is shown, "revisable model" and "authority from prediction" still fight.

Heliocentrism, deep time, and Darwin are the shatter. Bentham is offered as a low-bandwidth filler. GDP, QALYs, safety, and engagement are the later controls.

Those are not the same century. Nation, progress, class, and empire were thick purposes that ran institutions after Galileo and after Darwin, and they are not "counts that allocate." If purpose vacated when the cosmology broke, those should not have been able to govern. If they did govern, vacancy is the wrong date for why bureaucracies now default to what they can count.

Then Christianity is at most a remote condition. The page needs a story of why those later purposes lost the controls, not a story of cosmology breaking.

"When meaning voids faster than replacements gain legitimacy" is that story only if nation and progress failed to gain legitimacy, which they did not. They were exhausted on their own clocks — wars, industrial scale, measurement states. Keep the Christian bundle as it was, and ask whether a 20th-century counting bureaucracy still appears. If yes, the shatter is not what put counts in charge.

Nation and progress were already the first fillers. Population, territory, output, literacy: countable stand-ins for "what the group is for" once God-and-cosmos stopped answering. GDP is a later, cheaper version of the same move, not a new event.

The delay is bandwidth, not occupancy. Bentham sits in the middle of that thinning, which is why he is a specimen of filler rather than of industrialization. The vacancy date can stay at the shatter if "vacant" means "no longer tied to a cosmology," not "no purpose language in use."

The family diagram starts: load-bearing paradigm, then correction becomes costly, then a proxy acquires independent force, then the system consumes its substrate to preserve the proxy.

Rome, as written, is: republic virtues, then imperial scale, then grain, revenue, spectacle counts, then citizen-soldiers erode. No paradigm is being corrected. No cosmology is being falsified. Scale made counting attractive.

If Rome is in the family, the family is "counts eat the thing that produced them." That does not need the Christian sequence, and it does not support "correcting the cosmology could delete the purpose" as the shared mechanism.

Aztec is closer: sacrifice cosmology, then prisoner capture becomes the number, then Flowery Wars optimize the number over conquest. That one actually has a load-bearing picture of the world.

Then there are two families glued by a caption. Drop Rome, or say the West is on the scale path (like Rome) and the cosmology path is a different failure. Christianity as Western implementation only works if the West's path is the Aztec one — cosmology breaks, then counts. The Roman row is evidence against that identification.

Industrialization, bureaucracy, capitalism, state competition, and measurement technology "acted through the vacancy it created."

That sentence makes the later causes unable to lose. If a counting state appears, vacancy was the medium. If it does not, vacancy was absent or insufficient. Nothing would count as industry and measurement producing proxy governance without a prior meaning-void.

What would a non-vacant industrial society look like on the page's own test? Thick purpose still named, and budgets still run on counts — or thick purpose, and counts remaining tools? Until that row is specified, "through the vacancy" is a medium you cannot fail.

The useful split is counts as tools versus counts as what the machinery is for.

The page needs one row where purpose is still named in the thick sense, industry and measurement are present, and you can see whether the counts stayed tools. I do not have that row. Until it exists, "acted through the vacancy" cannot fail, and the Christian shatter is not doing identifiable work next to measurement technology.

The repair is: bind loyalty to method, not to a model, so Newton can retire without an identity crisis. Science is the specimen of that separation.

Science already allocates training, grants, and status by counts — papers, citations, p-values — while "what is true" is the omitted thing. The method did let models retire. It did not stop the counts from inheriting the controls. If the failure mode is proxies inheriting allocation, the recommended architecture is already inside it.

That is a missing half of the repair, not a joke about the page. Decoupling purpose from a falsifiable cosmology does not, by itself, keep counts from running the budget.

Newton-can-retire is about identity under model change, not about who gets the grant. Publication counts are a different layer from "is the cosmology load-bearing."

Then the design section only specifies the cosmology half. The paperclip half — counts allocating while omitted goods rot — needs a separate design, which the page gestures at as "meaning-making and metric-tracking need distinct authorities" without showing that science, the lead specimen, has that split. Method-loyalty is not that split.

Stop there: the design implication is underspecified, not false.

Rome and the Aztecs are there so Christianity need not be the only case. The title, "the original sin of history," and "an architectural error made two millennia ago" still treat it as the founding event.

If the contribution is the three configurations — coupled but revisable, decoupled by design, load-bearing coupled — then any civilization that made purpose depend on a falsifiable picture of the world has the vulnerability. Christianity is how the West got the third one. It is not the sin of history. The opener has to recode, or the comparative cases are decoration.

Section IV is the recode: a family of lock-in-plus-proxy, Christianity as the Western case. The leftover is the first question. "What made the West unusually vulnerable" plus a date two millennia ago still wants a unique founding error.

Those two frames are not the same claim. Pick one. Either drop "unusually" and treat Christianity as one implementation, or show why this bundle rather than other load-bearing religions. The Aztec and Roman rows are other failures, not that contrast.
