Corpus frame

The corpus applies one lens to many domains: what mechanisms produce the outcome? It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority.

  1. Mechanisms are what act. Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. Section II says capture is not a natural law. Specialized roles keep the cliff steep: peer-review gatekeepers, HR, deans, reply guys. A maintained political order.

Section V's physics case says the four axes locked tightly enough to produce capture without anyone designing it.

Those are different mechanisms. A cop is a role. An undesigned lock is a geometry. The physics case is the clean specimen of the trap. If it had no designers, the policing layer is optional, and "maintained political order" is a different species sitting under the same name.

Then ask of one cluster whether a named role is doing the steepness.

Is there a person whose job is to punish defection — a dean, a moderator, a compliance officer — such that without them the costs would flatten? If yes, the mechanism is the cop. If no, and a small break still takes all four axes with it, the bonding is doing the work without a cop.

Smolin's row, as written, is the second. The policing paragraph is the first. They should not be one framework until that split is scored.

The trap is supposed to need slow outside feedback. Software is the contrast: the code runs or it doesn't, and incumbents fall in years.

Then crypto stayed trapped for years "despite negative empirical feedback," because cheap money held the prices up. And 2008 is called a rent story — people paid to defend the frame — and also a failed rupture of a captured cluster, with the bill sent to the public through bailouts.

That is the same move twice. Someone paid to keep the test from landing. If money can pause "fast feedback," slow feedback is not a sixth independent condition. It is the material axis doing its job.

Near-zero rates were the cluster's money, not a special asterisk on the software contrast. Crypto is then rigid-solid on jobs and capital, and "viscous" still just means the money axis is liquid.

Keep slow feedback as its own knob. Add a seventh: the test can be bought off. Cheap capital, bailouts, a platform that will not let prices clear.

Then the software contrast is not "technical fields re-price." It is "nobody is paying to stop the re-pricing." That is a different claim. The six conditions as written have no slot for it.

Section IV says 2008 fits rent better than a multi-axis cognitive trap. Section VI uses the same crash as a failed rupture of the macroeconomic cluster, with leftover energy supposedly turning up in 2016.

If it is rent, the 2016 transfer is another paper. If it is this trap, rent is not sitting beside the four axes as a parallel. It is the money axis, and "paid to ignore reality" is the whole lock.

The page wants both grades on one crash.

The split is doing real work. For the core, the better frame is gone from working memory. For the periphery, they have it and hide it. That is how two findings that would otherwise fight are supposed to sit together.

Then occupancy is not a type. The same person can be core in a faculty meeting and periphery with friends. New people start as periphery and harden.

If the same person is both, the split can always recode. A sincere speech is core. A private joke is periphery. Nothing in that sorting would force you to say the split had failed.

Hypothetical, not a survey of any department: take the cost off.

Anonymous, no audience, no grant on the line. If the person still cannot produce the dissenting frame, that is pruning. If they can, they were periphery and the meeting was the price.

The Shanghai study is the second pattern: support up, well-being down, in the captured jobs. Hidden dissent. The first pattern — frame actually gone — is read off sincerity. Sincerity is also what a careful periphery performs.

Until those come apart without using the theory's own labels, "three populations" is a sorting rule, not a finding that lets both literatures sit.

The Mont Pelerin advice is: build in advance when the incumbent sits on a forced path — population, fiscal arithmetic, energy, thermodynamics. Do not bet against fashion. Fashion can relabel itself forever.

The clean trap specimen is Smolin's string-theory physics: tenure letters from the in-group, ranking pressure, patron-client grants, a lost generation, feedback in decades, nowhere else to work. All six conditions. None of those is a thermodynamic or demographic floor. A research fashion can mutate for another thirty years.

So the best-worked trap on the page is the one the strategy says not to bet on.

Then you have to be able to tell before the shock.

What would count, in a field like that, as a forced path rather than a fashion that can rename itself? If the only way to know is that stagflation later happened, "forced" is the name of the cases that broke.

Smolin's row either needs a physical constraint the page did not name, or it is the wrong object for a thirty-year building bet.
