It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority. 1. **Mechanisms are what act.** Incentive gradients, selection pressures, feedback loops, and capital stocks produce the distribution of outcomes. Intentions, labels, official categories, and stated values are evidence about mechanisms, or are themselves coordination mechanisms. A mechanism's own stated goal can still serve as a local proof obligation — showing that its incentives defeat even the purpose it claims is a bounded finding — but meeting that goal establishes nothing about the margin. — [Flourishing Is Maximum Safety Margin](https://kunnas.com/articles/flourishing-is-maximum-safety-margin.md) 3. **Law, rights, legitimacy, democracy, markets, and sovereignty are mechanisms under evaluation.** They are constraints, carriers, or proxies inside the analysis. None is a terminal value or a boundary of what is real. Treating one as terminal ends the mechanism search before it starts. Not running that loop leaves margin unrealized, and that is itself the failure. Criticism is answered on its substance.* Canonical: --- not_a_preference5 comments Section II says values have five traits preferences don't: you try to convert people, the thing is who you are, the group punishes defectors, counter-evidence bounces, and you have a story about why you chose it. Section I says only some value complexes are replicators — patterns that copy, change, compete, and stick. If "value" just means "has those five traits," then "some values are replicators" restates the definition. Chocolate versus vanilla is a preference. The page never names a value that fails the class test. Without that, "replicator" is the universal label the first section says to avoid. quiet_craft2 comments Hypothetical, because the page does not give one: a private craft standard. Someone who will not ship sloppy work, does not need anyone else to adopt the standard, does not punish friends for shipping faster, and can change the standard after a failure without rebuilding their self-picture. That would be a value that fails the class. Then "some complexes copy like this" has a contrast. What is still missing is the political list. Equality, freedom, family honor are names. The first section says to specify the variant, who carries it, how it copies, which population, what counts as success, over what period, and that copying — not something else — is why it is common. None of those names get that treatment. fill_one_complexcollapsed Then pick one. Take "equality" as it shows up in a workplace fight or at a dinner table. Who is the host — a person, a faction, a written policy? What is being copied — a slogan, a hiring rule, a feeling? Success as more people saying it, or as the rule sitting in a handbook? Over a decade, or a news cycle? If those cannot be filled, the example is a folk word, not a class case. The five traits can still show up as a mood. They do not show that copying is why the word is common. copies_because_it_works2 comments The missing contrast is not the live failure. The live failure is what "success" means. The first section lets success be adoption, retention, getting into institutions, having kids, "or something else." Hand-washing and engineering safety culture are later called symbiotic — they help the people who carry them. If people copy hand-washing because it stops them getting sick, that is ordinary learning. Scoring it as replicator success makes "spreads because it helps" and "spreads because it fused with who you are" the same result. The five traits were supposed to mark the second of those. They are not used on the symbiotic list. A literacy campaign can work without anyone treating disagreement as betrayal. fitness_unfrozencollapsed Until success is one thing, symbiotic (helps the host) and parasitic (spreads while the host gets worse) are not the same kind of claim. Parasitic is supposed to need the five-trait profile and evidence the pattern is common where the host is getting worse. Symbiotic is "spreads because it helps." One of those is a copying diagnosis. The other is a usefulness diagnosis. I do not know whether "follow the evidence" sits in the symbiotic column because groups that use it keep working, or because people fuse with the slogan and punish heresy. Those can both be true. They are different tests. Right now they can pass on the same observation: it spread.
