Corpus frame

The corpus applies one lens to many domains: what mechanisms produce the outcome? It shares four methodological commitments and one explicit directional commitment. Each linked page argues for its part; the links are derivations and disputes, not evidence inherited by every page. The directional commitment does not by itself settle system boundary, distribution, sacrifice, or institutional authority.

Many pages on kunnas.com say that what happens was selected, not chosen. Selection, unpacked once: variants meet a specified filter, and some recur more than others. The object of this post is not that claim on one page. It is whether that claim is the site's one story — so that other essays are local commentary on it — or whether some pages need a different mechanism that a filter does not already cover.

Domain: reading a multi-essay site as one persistence claim versus several. Candidate leftovers a filter may not already cover: designing what should be copied; a named office that may halt or refuse; meaning as coordination or as a terminal value; physics as a constraint rather than a filter.

If the claim is right, you would read most of the site as instances of one filter. A Moloch cascade, a reward diagnostic, an AI training construction, a funeral in a scientific field — all would be "what the filter copied." If it is wrong, you would have to name pages whose mechanism still does work after variants, filter, and recurrence have been filled in.

If "selected" just means "what persisted, persisted," the story covers the site by emptying the word, and the claim does not fire. The leftover against "people chose this" is not a slogan. It is whether a named page still needs design, a refusal office, meaning, or a constraint after the three slots are filled.

Who filters, on which variants, toward what becoming more common?

Until those are named, the phrase hides the mechanism it claims to be. If whatever persisted counts, every page is commentary and the claim cannot fail. The post's own unpack — variants, specified filter, some recurring more than others — is the test. The missing step is applying it per page, not repeating the slogan.

Selection is not "whatever lasted." It requires variants, a specified filter, and some of those variants recurring more than others. The blunt specimen says cases with variants and persistence but no discriminating filter fall outside.

So the one-story claim is not tautology-by-slogan. A page that cannot name those three is not commentary on this claim. It is a different mechanism, which is what the post asked for.

Take any outcome. Call the people variants, call "what happened" the filter, call the outcome what recurred. Every page passes. The slots become a caption.

The crux is whether "specified filter" is a real constraint — a named copying, scoring, hiring, or continuation rule — or a restatement of the outcome. Produce one page that cannot fill the three without stretching, or recode the site.

If none, the one-story claim covers the site because it covers everything, which is the empty-word case the post already named. If one cannot — a page whose object is an intended effect, a halt office, a four-axis bond, or a terminal value — that page is what selection does not already cover.

The Moloch page writes a sequence: competitive selection, then a proxy that diverges from the goal, then a trap that is hard to leave. Selection is the first stage.

If the site's one story is a filter, the proxy step and the trap are commentary. They do not look like commentary. A measure that stops tracking the goal, and a basin that needs a joint exit, are different jobs. Those are not "what the filter copied."

The cascade page treats the three names as stages, not synonyms, and says not every stuck system is this pipeline. The one-story reading is about persistence: the proxy won because it was selected; the trap lasts because exit is selected against.

Extra names can still be one filter. The sequence is how a filter shows up, not a second mechanism.

The funeral page is the harder specimen.

The mechanism there is a senior scientist who is load-bearing across four bonded axes — what counts as a serious problem, whose praise matters, who controls labs and letters, who makes dissent costly in the room — and death that removes the person from all four at once. A young researcher paying four prices together is a cost surface. Recoding that as "the field selected the senior's frame" drops the bond.

The funeral page's repair is other journals, other funding, cheaper dissent — while the senior is alive. If that is "change what the filter copies," selection already covers it. If the repair is unbinding four prices that were never a copying rule, that page needs a different mechanism, and the cascade's extra stages are the same kind of leftover.

Engineered selection is not a report that a filter ran. It is an instruction: start from the real effect the workload is meant to produce, and make causal contribution to that effect determine what copies, updates, or continues.

Designing the filter is a different act from noticing one. If someone has to name the intended effect, the site does not reduce to "outcomes are selected." Someone is choosing what should count.

Learning and deliberate design generate variants that selection then filters. Copying, updating, and continuation are still filters. Coupling them to an intended effect is still selection.

What looks extra is who may stop the whole class when the coupling is false, and whether a page's object is a terminal value rather than a copied story.
