The closing six-sentence box calls value ecologies load-bearing capital stocks. Section II says the ecology is not a stock; it is the selection process that builds and consumes stocks. The ledger's object is not identified.

Read the box as a slip: the ledger rows are trust, legitimacy, cohesion, and prediction skill. The ecology is how those rows get filled. Then the box and the closing "ecology needs a ledger" line are the same slip twice; a process has no cell.

If the ecology is a process, a stock ledger does not show it. Trust can fall from a war, a bank run, or a value-package that punishes truth-telling. The sheet looks the same. Reading stocks as the ecology is the conflation section II forbids.

The section IV examples audit a statute against its own promise (homelessness, patents, trust). The thesis and section VII audit a value ecology against civilizational stocks. A law can hit its homelessness target while cohesion falls, or miss the target while stocks are healthy. One instrument cannot be both audits.

As written, the examples are a policy auditor. An ecology finding would name which value-packages are consuming which stocks, not whether a statute missed a number it wrote down. The page exhibits the first finding and calls it the civilizational equivalent of a steam governor.

Putting trust, legitimacy, cohesion, and prediction accuracy into a published correct-or-explain loop is installing those measures in the feedback loop. Section III says that invites gaming and selection for what spreads. The steam-engine analogy says the governor has no preferences about RPM; these stocks are the RPM.

Once a finding says measured trust declined, correct or explain, the number is the target. Patents, startup counts, and survey trust are what you move. Electoral packages already select for what spreads; a spreadsheet of those proxies is the same selection with better letterhead. The steam engine's correction is mechanical; this correction is political publication of a proxy.

Section V answers weighting twice: triage by proximity to failure, with leftovers for political closure; and most leftovers are temporal illusions at generational scale. If the second is true, political closure is unnecessary. If it is not, triage is only for emergencies, which V already names. The illusion sentence is extra work.

Triage at binding thresholds is granted. The illusion claim is not. This decade you can still fund one stock and starve the other. Both dying in a century if you starve either does not make this year's allocation fake. Seeing that as an illusion already assumes the long-horizon goal the page says stays optional.

Cultivation claims that publishing a missed objective changes the fitness landscape so truth-tracking values gain. Section III says identity-protective packages bounce counter-evidence before evaluation. The published miss is that counter-evidence. The two mechanisms are not composed.

Then the ledger is another identity flag. Groups that already treat measurement as an attack will treat the finding as an attack. Fitness of the immune story rises; fitness of truth-tracking does not.

A miss the ecology already wanted would look like cultivation and would be politics using a chart. A miss the ecology treats as betrayal would look like section III and would not change what spreads. Until those come apart, "the governor shapes the soil" is publish-and-hope.
